Plant Growth Regulators

The main use of plant growth regulators is on cereal crops and the oldest, and widest used, active ingredient is chlormequat (chlorocholine chloride or CCC). Mandops produce a range of premium products (eg ADJUST, BARLEYQUAT B, BETTAQUAT B, CERAIDE and MANIPULATOR) which can now be applied from GS12 up to the end of GS39.

The disadvantages of standard chlormequat (CCC)

Chlormequat, traditionally used as a straw shortener for wheat to reduce lodging (kinking of the stem near the base), is an anti-gibberellin. The cereal hormones page explains how CCC PGRs work.

However, CCC suffers from two main problems. The biggest problem is that it does not function properly at much below 8 degrees Centigrade but, to achieve the desired effect, it is necessary to apply it in the early spring when it is rarely as warm as this for several hours a day and for the required two or three days. If CCC is applied later, when the weather is warmer, it is less effective in reducing the length of the lower internodes, and more crop damage may be caused by the CCC from its second problem, ie that it is inherently phytotoxic.

The solution - Mandops plant growth regulators

Mandops products are based on CCC as the active ingredient but include a unique, patented, biochemical system which makes the CCC more effective at low temperature (down to 1 degree Centigrade) and reduces the phytotoxicity of the CCC. The biochemical system (based on a mixture of amino acids, vitamins and vitamin precursors) also reduces crop damage caused by other crop protection chemicals, such as herbicides & fungicides, applied to the crop in tank mixtures with the Mandops product.

Mandops' PGRs promote early crown root development, manipulate apical dominance, increase stem strength and tiller survival. The low temperature response is excellent and Mandops' PGRs consistently give yield increases and reductions in lodging.

Independent trials commissioned by Mandops have shown that ADJUST, BARLEYQUAT B, BETTAQUAT B and MANIPULATOR outperform standard chlormequat and also the newer, premium plant growth regulators.

ADJUST, BARLEYQUAT B, BETTAQUAT B and MANIPULATOR are now approved for use from GS12 to the end of GS39.

As well as ADJUST, BARLEYQUAT B, K2 and MANIPULATOR being the only chlormequat based PGRs approved for use on spring barley, these premium grade PGRs are now approved for use from GS12 to the end of GS39.
